ISSUE 133 - July 2026

Your FREE monthly magazine of all things local on the Coast.

I’ve spent a lot of time driving my kids to activities around the Coast at dusk recently and at times I’ve literally pulled the car over to take in the incredible sunsets on display. The elevation and landscape around the Coast certainly blesses us with some real beauties.

We are also blessed on the Coast with lots of talented and hard-working locals. In this issue, we bring you the story of a local footballer making waves on the New Zealand Secondary School scene, we share a powerful piece from an exceptionally talented local author and we celebrate with Coastguard Hibiscus as two of their skippers pass a gruelling assessment to re-qualify their operational skills.

With AI on everyone’s minds lately, we bring you a local business who can help you navigate this relatively new arena, advice on which AI tools might be best suited to specific goals and a caution about the limitations of AI when it comes to meaningful social interaction. For those IRL catch ups we have a hiking suggestion at lovely Bethells Beach, we fill you in on what it’s like to hold a dinner party catered by a private chef and we help you imagine journeying with your nearest and dearest through the varying landscapes of Peru (certainly one of my top travel highlights ever).

If your current goals fit more within the ‘staying healthy’ category, we have advice on strength training for women, why you shouldn’t give up working out just when it gets tough, and we even have a moreish butternut squash pancake recipe for you, a delicious way to tick off one of your ‘5+ a day’ by breakfast time.

Please, pop up your feet and enjoy.

Kind regards

Claire Nevans & The Coasties Mag Team
