ISSUE 130 - April 2026
Your FREE monthly magazine of all things local on the Coast.
We have an eventful month ahead, dear readers, with Easter weekend, Anzac Day and two weeks of school holidays all crammed within the 30 calendar squares we call April. With fuel prices as high as they are – and rising every day (!!) – there’s never been a better time to choose a staycation on the Coast. It’s also a great way to support local businesses.
In this issue we’re putting a spotlight on some local businesses making a difference in the community, including a generous local auto shop, and food and beverage businesses taking steps toward sustainability.
We’re also celebrating local talent, with the first article by our new student Feature Writer, Lizzie Blanchard, bringing news of how athletes from our two local surf life saving clubs got on at the recent New Zealand Nationals event at Ōhope Beach, and we have details of the community theatre production of Phantom of the Opera, coming soon to Centrestage Theatre.
Wanting ideas for getting out and about? We have info on all the Rebus Clubs in the area, always happy to welcome more ‘Mature Coasties’ into their midst, the lowdown on all the exhibitions coming up at Estuary Arts, and lots and lots of activities on at your local libraries.
Prefer to stay in? We have an exceptional short story entitled ‘The Picture’ by local published author Robyn Cotton for you to read, book recommendations for a new gripping drama and a warm and witty memoir you won’t be able to put down, and lots of other tips and advice from our many talented contributors. And don’t miss this month’s recipes – curried lentil soup and a snapper and crayfish mac and cheese. Sound pretty autumn-licious to me!
Please, pop your feet up and enjoy.
Kind regards
Claire Nevans & The Coasties Mag Team
